The story behind Book of Finn
The creation of Book of Finn started in 2020 in Los Angeles, CA. During quarantine I wanted to challenge myself with a daily writing task. After 48 days I decided to collect my thoughts regarding what I was writing and it turned out that I had a few common themes happening.
Magic, the Elements and Queer love stories.
I’ve always wanted to write a novel and create a graphic novel but I never had the time before nor did I believe I was actually capable. Because it was 2020 and because I had the time I decided to go for it!
I started piecing together my daily one-pagers into categories and realized that I had created several characters already, they just needed to be sculpted with a little more detail.
I started drawing them out with colored pencils. There were dozens of pages and color variations for each character.
I decided to look at my favorite character archetypes and I created a team: the Trickster, the Thief, the Fighter, the Thinker and the Cursed Child.
Once these characters were created the story started to unfold. I wrote for months until the entire first draft was finished, then I put it away for several years.
I became incredibly overwhelmed with wanting to actually finish and publish my novel so I started focusing on drawing it out instead, thus the graphic novel/outline story was created.
I’ve published the first half of the story/outline on Amazon and I’m about to publish book two, which will be shorter.
It’s insane to think that what started out in 2020 as a series of one-page writings turned into the creation of an entire world revolving around the Elements, Magic and Lore.
Book of Finn is my love letter to the world of
Fantasy and Science-Fiction.
